A progress update on Cape Town’s journey to becoming the easiest place to do business in Africa

 

On Day 2 of the Western Cape Investment Summit (WCIS 2025), the City of Cape Town takes centre stage with its Doing Business in Cape Town Breakaway Session – a focused engagement showcasing how the city is making it easier, faster, and smarter to do business in Africa’s most dynamic metro.

 

A Summit highlight, this session brings together leaders from industry organisations, business, and government to share insights on the reforms, innovation, and partnerships driving Cape Town’s economic success.

 

Session Highlights

 

Keynote Address:

“Cape Town on Course to Becoming the Easiest Place to Do Business in Africa”
Delivered by Alderman James Vos, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth. Alderman Vos will unpack how Cape Town is cutting red tape, streamlining services, and enabling investment to unlock inclusive growth.

 

Launch of Volume 3 of the Ease-of-Doing-Business Index:

Presented by Ruby Gelderbloem, Executive Director for Economic Growth, this latest volume tracks the city’s progress in building a business-friendly environment.

 

Digital Transformation Discussion:

Africa Melane in conversation with Andre Stelzner, the City’s Chief Digital Officer, exploring how digital innovation is reshaping service delivery and accelerating business processes.

 

Economic and Spatial Insights:

Chief Economist Paul Court and Annelise de Bruin will share updates on Cape Town’s economic performance and its most competitive business locations.

 

Signing of the “We Mean Business Bill of Rights”:

Through these conversations and commitments, Cape Town reaffirms its position as Africa’s business capital – where innovation meets opportunity and partnerships drive progress.
