Invest Cape Town Centre Hosts Insightful Collaborative Intelligence Workshop with Ambassador Gregg Potter

The Invest Cape Town Centre recently opened its doors to business leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals for an engaging and thought-provoking Collaborative Intelligence (CQ) Workshop hosted by Invest Cape Town Ambassador, Gregg Potter, at the iconic Cape Town City Hall.

The workshop, titled Why Smart Teams Struggle to Collaborate, created a dynamic platform for local businesses to explore how stronger collaboration can help organisations build, scale, and remain sustainable in an increasingly complex business environment.

Bringing together professionals from across sectors, the session focused on leadership, communication, team effectiveness, and the importance of creating environments where people can think and work better together. Participants were encouraged to reflect on the way teams function, identify barriers to collaboration, and explore practical ways to improve workplace engagement and productivity.

One of the key insights shared during the workshop was the concept of Collaborative Intelligence (CQ), defined as “the human capacity to create conditions where people can think, decide, and act better together than they could alone amid difference, uncertainty, and tension.”

Gregg Potter unpacked several building blocks that contribute to successful collaboration, including self-awareness, transformational leadership, conflict resolution, facilitation, and what he described as “friendliness to collaboration” — approaching collaboration with curiosity and intention.

The session also explored common challenges faced by teams, such as communication breakdowns, silo mentalities, reduced productivity, and unresolved conflict, while highlighting how healthy collaboration can strengthen resilience and create more effective organisations.

Attendees participated in meaningful discussions around leadership shifts, responsibility within teams, and the importance of creating spaces where diverse perspectives can lead to innovation and growth. The workshop encouraged businesses to rethink collaboration not simply as a process, but as a critical driver of sustainable success.

Invest Cape Town extends its sincere appreciation to all guests, partners, and attendees who contributed to the energy and engagement throughout the morning. The strong turnout and active participation reflected a shared commitment to building more connected, resilient, and collaborative business communities across Cape Town.

As Invest Cape Town continues to support local businesses and entrepreneurs, initiatives such as these workshops remain an important part of fostering innovation, leadership, and long-term economic growth within the city.
