When Siddharth relocated to Cape Town after more than four decades in India, he naturally expected challenges. Instead, he was met with a myriad of opportunities and a community that welcomed his family with open arms. “The ease of doing business, settling in and making a life here has been remarkable. From enrolling my son in school to buying a home, the systems are efficient, secure and transparent,” he says.
As the leader of a US-listed data and AI company operating in South Africa’s Global Business Services sector, Siddharth brings invaluable expertise to the City’s investment narrative. His sector not only creates high-value jobs but also stimulates a wide range of other enabling industries including everything from transport and facilities to human resources and digital talent development. “When one service provider expands, the entire ecosystem grows. That’s the kind of multiplier effect Cape Town is primed for,” he explains.
He has enjoyed an impressive career, with accolades including the Achievers Award for Excellence in Leadership, Most Innovative Project Award and Outstanding Performance in Operations. He holds a General Management certificate from MDI Gurgaon, a degree from Delhi University, and a diploma in Hotel Management from IHM Delhi. He has been astutely leveraging this experience to further the City of Cape Town.
Becoming an Invest Cape Town ambassador is a professional commitment which he is approaching with gratitude. “Cape Town has given me and my family so much. This role is my way of giving back, by helping attract other global investors to see what I’ve seen here,” he explains.
Siddharth wants to use his platform to correct outdated global perceptions. He admits that he had preconceived notions about safety, education and infrastructure in South Africa before he moved here. “Once I experienced the City first-hand, I realised many of those assumptions were unfounded or exaggerated. The reality is that Cape Town compares very favourably with other global cities from London to New York, especially when you look at opportunity and quality of life,” he says.
Over the next three years, he hopes to see global education brands establish a presence in the City to help reduce inequality in the education system. He is also focused on improving transport affordability, recognising that logistics and mobility are key to unlocking inclusive growth. “If we can bring in the right partners and create transparent, commercially viable models, everyone from large investors to the local workforce will benefit.”
What excites Siddharth most about Cape Town’s future is its leadership. Having worked closely with government officials and business stakeholders, he’s been struck by their integrity and commitment to progress. “I’ve found the political culture here refreshingly honest. Leaders who admit when something is beyond their mandate and who genuinely want to reduce unemployment and drive development. That gives me hope,” he says.
