MEDIA STATEMENT BY MAYORAL COMMITTEE MEMBER FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH, ALDERMAN JAMES VOS

City team highlights Cape Town’s potential at SA Investment Conference

I’m pleased to announce the conclusion of a successful programme of strategic investment engagements at the sixth South Africa Investment Conference, convened by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

At the conference, I led the Invest Cape Town delegation, the City of Cape Town’s official investment promotion brand, as we engaged with investors, corporations and industry leaders to position Cape Town as a premier destination for investment and job creation. Our efforts were further amplified through a presence at the Wesgro stand, enabling us to collaborate closely with regional partners while extending our reach to a broader network of global stakeholders.

Through Invest Cape Town, we are connecting investors to real opportunities and demonstrating why the Mother City is competitive, business-ready and has the fundamentals for long-term growth.

During the conference, we participated in high-level discussions that showcased Cape Town’s strengths across priority sectors. This included our compelling green economy value proposition, with a specific focus on the Atlantis Special Economic Zone as a key hub for renewable energy and advanced manufacturing investment.

We also highlighted Cape Town’s globally competitive Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector, underpinned by a strong and growing skills pipeline. Through targeted training programmes, we are enabling companies to scale efficiently while ensuring that job creation remains at the centre of our economic growth efforts.

In engagements with investors, we outlined the City’s newly adopted Manufacturing Support Policy, which is designed to directly address the needs of manufacturing businesses and support sector growth.

I further emphasised the City’s dedicated Investment Facilitation function, through which our teams work closely with investors to guide them through municipal processes, making it easier, faster and more predictable to establish and expand operations in Cape Town.

I also warmly welcome the new investment announcements relating to Cape Town made during the conference. While these are important milestones, many of these investments stem from ongoing engagements by the City, with our teams already working closely with investors through international outreach, engagements at their global headquarters, and by hosting delegations in Cape Town. I have also had the opportunity to engage directly with a number of these investors as part of this process. It is encouraging to see these discussions now translate into firm commitments, reinforcing that our focused and proactive approach to investment facilitation is delivering results for the city.

Our focus remains clear: removing barriers, unlocking investment, and ensuring that economic growth centres job opportunities for Capetonians.

This conference provided a valuable platform to strengthen partnerships, unlock new investment prospects, and reinforce Cape Town’s position as a leading hub for sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
