Mobile Business Policy for Cape Town
The City of Cape Town is in the process of approving its Draft Mobile Business Policy and Draft Amendments to the Informal Trading bylaw.
Once the Draft Mobile Business Policy and Draft Amendments to the Informal Trading bylaw are approved, and designated mobile trading areas have been established, the City will make a formal call for applications by informing the public that applications for mobile trading permits are open. In the interim, mobile business operators who wish to trade are encouraged to apply to trade at markets and private events, including school markets, etc.
Mobile business operators must please note that applications will be open and competitive. The City cannot guarantee any operator their choice of location.
To prepare for the upcoming mobile business permit system, it is recommended that mobile businesses apply for a Certificate of Acceptability and a Business License from the City’s Environmental Health Department, which are required even for operating at private events. The City will provide further information through the media once the mobile business permits are available for application, including how to apply and what the specific requirements will be.
