James Vos Engages Entrepreneurs on Business Hub Services
The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, Alderman James Vos, participated in an activation where he engaged with local entrepreneurs and small businesses about the City’s Business Hub support services.
“I am pleased to see the positive impact of these workshops firsthand in the many businesses I engage with at their workplaces. Last year, over 5,000 SMMEs participated in these programmes, helping them access resources, guidance, and growth opportunities,” said Alderman Vos. “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and it’s essential they have the tools to thrive and create jobs.”
Key programmes offered through the Business Hub include:
- Smart Procurement – Helping small businesses access supply chain opportunities.
- Supplier Development and Training – Equipping businesses with skills to become competitive suppliers.
- Workshops on Marketing and Tendering – Providing insights on how to effectively promote businesses and navigate procurement processes.
“These initiatives are about equipping entrepreneurs with the tools to succeed and make their businesses trading-ready,” Vos added. “It’s through supporting small businesses that we continue to drive economic growth and job creation.”
Vos has announced that applications for the 2025 Smart Supplier Development Programme are now open until the end of the month. This initiative aims to empower local small businesses by enhancing their capacity to engage effectively with corporate supply chains, thereby accessing new and larger contract opportunities in both the public and private sectors. According to Vos the programme offers participants access to buyer readiness masterclass sessions, in-person and online supplier matchmaking events, and ongoing support through the SMME Clinic community. To qualify, businesses must be based in Cape Town, operational for at least 18 months, and meet specific ownership and compliance criteria.
